"Aka Waka (This Time for Africa)" was released on 7 May, 2010 and approved as the official song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

The Song was written by a Colombian artist, Shakira, featuring a South African band known as Freshlyground. South African Zolani Mahoia, a vocalist of the Freshlyground delivered a verse in the song which was produced by John Hill.

The song which was originally released in English and Spanish contained adaptation of the popular Cameroonian Makossa song titled, "Tsamina mina (Zangalewa)" by Golden Sounds. Shakira combined several languages such as English, Xhosa (South Africa) fang(Cameroon/Equatorial Guinea), Camfranglais(a Cameroonian colloquial resulting from the mixture of English, French and indigenous languages).

The FIFA's 2010 World Cup official song present football tournament as a battlefield where soldiers are expected to win the battles. It resonate the fighting spirit of the footballers and ginger their morale "do it" for their country as the whole world is "watching."

This song was performed at both the opening (10 June) and closing (11 July) ceremony of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Several people criticized FIFA's decision to use the Song as official song of a world cup hosted in Africa. The argument is that the official song should have from African artist(s) since the tournament was played in Africa. On the other hand, others argued that World Cup is a global event as such its official should come from a global artist regardless of place of origin.

Despite the controversies, the song scaled through and has recorded millions of download since released and its video has over 1 Billion views on YouTube.

The song has been rated as the Best World Cup song Ever.
