The Man himself

Nji Collins is 17 years old and a student of Government Bilingual High School Bamenda(GBHS Bamenda). He is an Upper sixth science student and now a Google Code in Grand prize winner.
The Mentors
While we say congratulations Collins for being the first African to win the Google Code-in Grand Prize, we should not forget about the mentors.
Once more the Silicon Mountain techosystem has proven that they represent tech in Africa.
The Silicon Mountain will be sending a visitor to Google in the Silicon Valley.
Thanks to Google Developers Group Buea (GDG Buea) championed by names like: +Isaac Kamga +Nyah Check +Otto Akama , Alangi Derrick, Melanie Lontsi among others.
These team of mentors made up of developers, tech entrepreneurs,Google summer code participant and what you can think when it comes to code and tech. It is with the dedication of these young Cameroonians in collaboration with Nji collins that Africa is able to make a name today, January 30th 2017 in Google Code in History. We encourage other Cameroonian and Africans to engage in team work and make our youths and continent a great place.
This team of talented mentors are ready to produce the next generation of coders, hackers and tech entrepreneurs with the label ''Made in Cameroon'' . Pay a visit to the silicon mountain of Cameroon or connect with some members of this community. Is this not great?
The Challenges
In a post on Afro Hustlers, Collins NJI said '' When GCI started I was anxious and nervous to some extend… I had to find ways to turn my nervousness into creativity and fun. Participating was super exciting and really exhausting, and at the end, I discovered that I gained a whole new level of experience in the Open source world''
Like any other youth, this young developer had challenges which every teen and developer has. However we will list some challenges we think are worth mentioning;
- The Age : Many teens don't think of things like this given that computer education is done passively in Cameroon secondary schools. He was able to think contrary to what 17 years old think of ( sex, alcohol among others).
-The Country: Nji is from Cameroon. Taking a decision to participate in this competition means he was ready to deviate from the so called ''Cameroon Mentality''.
-Strike: From the day the Google Code in project was launched to the day of publication, the towns of Buea and Bamenda where Nji could work had been on strike AKA The Anglophone Problem.
-No internet: The winner is coming from a part of the country where Internet had been cut off.
The Determination to Win
-The challenges. We all know how ugly codes looks like. In other to make it to the end, Nji collins along with 33 other teens completed 842 task to emerge winners.
-Despite internet outage in Cameroon , Nji Collins was able to travel from the Bamenda to Bafoussam to have access to the internet. He is the winner under this conditions.
-1 340 students from 62 countries participated in this years competition. Standing out among the number require hard work, sacrifice and determination.
